The new $1700 27”, higher-than-HD-resolution LED screen iMac is wall-mountable.

Is it just me, or is this the ultimate kitchen-wall a/v telecomputer machine-thingy or what? Have it running Plex, with Rowmote on your iPhone, add one of those EyeTv dongles to it if you want to bother with cable, and you’re all set. (it has a webcam, too, by the way - which makes me think of Infinite Jest’s Rise-and-Fall of the videophone industry section. It’s one thing if you’re tethered to a desk with videophone chats, but to be able to do that while making dinner…)

There’s never really been any doubt in my mind that all this stuff would eventually converge, but if that’s what $1700+ can buy today, it boggles the mind as to what will be available by the time I’m actually in the market for an ultimate kitchen-wall a/v telecomputer machine-thingy.

(a bit of a relief that she asked the question, honestly, as it has)

me: I ended up actually saying something like this to the clients, as I was handling this solo:
he said he wanted openness and light, and thought that high ceilings were the surefire way to guarantee this
I told him that high ceilings are never experienced solely as a vertical condition in a vacuum, that there's always a horizontal component to it as well
Matt: true
me: the horizontal connections we've designed in there are incredibly far-reaching and open to the site
sited well with the sun's path, too
meaning - we can lower the ceilings, jackass

Yes, I am the ‘bill’ that passed that David Lynch quote along to Messr. Kottke. To say that I feel like I just got my first ~~Najor~~ Major League hit would be wildly overstating things, but I do feel ~~Luke~~ like this is something of note, some notch on my belt, of sorts. Maybe it’s more akin to contibuting an additional baseball for play at a minor league park, or something. But, you know, at one in a really good farm system to say the least.

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War

Listened to the entire audiobook on Tuesday, driving up to Tunbridge, VT and back. They did a spectacular job putting this together (apparently the author, Max Brooks, not only has animation voice-over experience, but him being the son of Mel Brooks might help account for the all-star-ish voice cast).

I have no doubt that the voice talent does a far better job at representing the various accents of the storytellers than my imagination could ever attempt. My only disappointment was reaching the end and finding that it was abridged. So now I have to go back and fill in the gaps - fortunately the book’s format will make this an easier job than most.

The Cloud Photographers

Nicholas Gurewitch, the creator of the incredible (and now, sadly defunct) Perry Bible Fellowship has somewhat strangely created a soundtrack for a fictional Wes Anderson movie:

MN: What is the story of The Cloud Photographers? Who stars?

NG: The Cloud Photographers is mainly about the trials of a de-revolutionary group called “R.A.M.R.A.T” - The Royal Association for the Militant Reclamation of American Territories. It stars Alec Guiness as a senile ex-war general.
